The Man Diet is the perfect resource if you:

  1. are a man

  2. regularly engage in hardcore workouts (or are planning to)

  3. you know your nutritional lifestyle kinda sucks

(like me)

The book is marketed as a system for maximising testosterone levels, and while there is certainly a lot of scientific backing for a lot of the recommendations in the book, the book’s real strength lies in the fact that it understands men.

I especially like the cookbook: 50 manly recipes like bacon omelettes, pork chops and Chilli con Carne.

Frickin’ masculine.

The ingredients are either very common or if there is something a little unusual, it can easily be replaced with something more common.

For example, the recipes all use grapeseed oil. I’m probably not gonna use grapeseed oil, just because I don’t know where in the supermarket it is and I can’t be bothered spending the 30-sec to go find it. I’ll stick with olive oil.

The reason this is so valuable…

Is because the vast majority of people probably shouldn’t try an elimination diet like paleo, low carb or vegetarian. This isn’t my opinion…

Nowadays, the top nutrition experts (like Dr Yoni Freedhoff or Dr John Berardi) do not typically recommend elimination diets. If the client tries it and finds that it works, great, but it’s not the first choice. The first choice is:

  • get the junk food out of your diet

  • eat a lot of whole foods, especially vegetables

  • If you’re into hardcore workouts, get a lot of protein

The question is how do you do that?

If you are a man, The Man Diet provides the simplest way.

Can you lose weight with it?

There are 3 ways that the Man Diet can be expected to cause weight loss…

  1. “Reprogram” your hormones

  2. Intermittent fasting

  3. Meal plans

1. “Reprogramming” your hormones

In his book “Why We Eat Too Much”, Dr Andrew Jenkinson outlines the scientific research supporting the notion that the human brain “sets” its bodyweight. That is, the brain controls how much body fat we store, by interacting with hormones. Sometimes, weight gain is a result of this system going wrong.

A natural diet that emphasises whole foods can “reprogram” the hormones and “re-set” bodyweight.

The Man Diet is very natural, relying largely on whole foods and natural products, so its reasonable to expect some weight loss from using it

2. Intermittent fasting

The ebook collection includes an intermittent fasting guide. Intermittent fasting has been shown to result in weight loss and numerous health benefits.

3. Meal plans

When purchasing the ebook collection, you have the option of adding a series of calorie counted meal plans to ensure that you actually create a negative calorie deficit.

Can you gain mass with it?

The guide does not give instruction for building mass specifically. However, it does lay a good nutritional foundation for building muscle mass.

If you want to gain mass, the best kind of diet you would eat is the Man Diet… the only question is how much of it you eat, so you would need to tweak your diet to stimulate mass gain.

However, this is something you would have to do if you want to gain mass, regardless of your diet.

All things considered, the Man Diet is a good first step into fitness cooking for men, regardless of their long-term health/fitness goals and definitely worth checking out…
